The Kundalini Yoga East Experience
Welcome to Kundalini Yoga East. Your experience will begin with an easy sign-in procedure at the front desk. If you like you can register for class online by clicking here and then just check-in at the front desk. You remove your shoes and socks, place your belongings in one of the cubbies provided, and change into your exercise clothes. Next, take your towel or yoga mat, bottle of water and enter the yoga room. Find a place to sit or lay down and let yourself relax before class begins. Your Kundalini Yoga experience is supported by the beauty of the room and the meditative music.
All Kundalini Yoga classes begin with “tuning-in” with the Adi Mantra “Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo” meaning “I bow to the subtle divine wisdom, the divine teacher within.” This is chanted together with the teacher and the other students 3 times, with a long deep breath. The class format is breathing (pranayam), a few warm ups (as needed), a Kundalini kriya (series of exercises) that can be subtle and simple or moderately physical to fairly strenuous (you work at your own comfort level and physical capacity), a deep relaxation (often to the powerful healing sounds of the symphonic gong), followed by powerful meditation techniques and the closing song, “May the Longtime Sun Shine Upon You, All Love Surround You, and the Pure Light within You, Guide Your Way On”, sung through two times, followed by chanting Sat Nam, which means “Truth in my Infinite Identity.”
After class you will be uplifted and relaxed. Please give yourself a moment to socialize and enjoy a cup of freshly made Yogi Tea® before returning to the busy city streets of New York.
Q. When should I arrive for class my first time at Kundalini Yoga East?
A. Try to arrive at least twenty minutes before class starts. This will give you time to sign in, have your questions answered, store your belongings, change into your exercise clothes, use the rest room if needed, meet the other students, and get oriented to the store and the yoga room.
Q. What is recommended to wear to a Kundalini Yoga class?
A. Please wear modest, comfortable light colored clothing, preferably made of cotton or other natural, breathable fiber. White clothes can enhance your Kundalini experience by expanding your electro-magnetic field (aura), your personal awareness and makes it easier for the teacher to see how you are breathing and moving during class. It is best to remove your socks for Kundalini Yoga.
Q. How long do I need to wait after I have eaten to practice Kundalini Yoga?
A. It is good to wait about two hours after eating before you practice yoga and meditation. This will help you gain the maximum benefits, plus it is easier to exercise on an empty stomach. If you must eat, a piece of fruit is all right.
